Here in mid-Missouri, it’s the season of the church dinner. It seems like everywhere I look there’s a sign announcing a fish fry on Friday night at one of the local Catholic parishes.

But out in the booming metropolis of Lohman (population less than 200!), the Lutherans are getting in on the gig, only their sign announces the annual pancake breakfast.
