What’s to be grateful for today? An afternoon spent connecting with nature.
I love iris in the spring.
But this past spring my iris didn’t bloom to their full potential — probably because the beds really needed to be thinned out.
Honestly, I don’t so much love iris in the fall…when I’m digging them up.
Sigh.
Especially when I’m late in getting them out of the ground like I am this year.
I guess that’s how digging in the dirt this afternoon became one of those things that falls under the heading of “It Is What It Is.”
Today was the day I had time.
So here we are.
But it was an utterly gorgeous day for a first Sunday in November. The sun was shining, and the weather was warm enough for me to break a sweat as I shoveled and broke the rhizomes apart.
Soon my “connecting with nature” days will involve scooping snow and scraping off windows, so today I revelled the opportunity to get my hands in the dirt one last time while it was still warm outside.
Now, as the first evening of Standard Time returns and the darkness quickly is closing in, I’m looking on the bright side — only 135 more days until spring!
All best,
